Happy Easter. Story and games. Part I.

Hello everyone,
A lot of people are celebrating Easter holidays during this week in different parts. Read this if you want to find out a little more about this celebration.

What does Easter mean?
Easter is the oldest and the most important Christian Festival, the celebration of the death and coming to life again of Jesus Christ.

What is the Easter story?
Easter is the story of Jesus' last days in Jerusalem before his death. The Easter story includes Maundy Thursday , Good Friday  and Easter Day.

Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday  commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles. It is the beginning of the three day celebration of Easter. Maundy Thursday 2015 falls on 2 April.

Last Supper

Good Friday Christians remember the day when Jesus was crucified on a cross. Some Christians fast  on Good Friday. This helps them remember the sacrifice Jesus made for them on the day of crucifixion. Some Christians take part in a procession, carrying a cross through the streets and then into church.

It is traditional to eat warm 'hot cross buns' on Good Friday. Hot Cross Buns with their combination of spicy, sweet and fruity flavours.

Why do we eat Hot Cross Buns?

The pastry cross on top of the buns symbolizess and reminds Christians of the cross.

People ate the buns at breakfast time, hot from the oven. Street vendors sang a little song about them.

"Hot cross buns, Hot cross buns,
One a penny, two a penny,
Hot cross buns."

Easter Day or Easter Sunday Christians gather together on Easter Sunday for a Sunrise Service. This service takes place on a hill side so everyone can see the sun rise. The traditional Easter gift is a chocolate egg. The first eggs were bird eggs. The custom of giving eggs at Easter celebrates new life.

Parents give chocolate eggs decorated in bright colours to children.

Here you can see some customs involving eggs:
- Egg rolling :  Egg rolling is very popular in England and is an Easter Monday sport. Hard-boiled eggs are rolled down a hill.

- Egg jarping.

- Easter egg hunts.

Give a little bit: Supertramp.

Hello everyone,

This week has been really hard and sad due to the plane which crashed in the French Alps.
Two years ago, there was a terrible accident near Santiago de Compostela. That fateful evening the train was near the station, but it derailed at high speed on a bend on the outskirts of the city.
Many neighbors from Angrois, the neighborhood where the train derailed  went down to help and pull people from the trains until medics arrived. They could save a lot of people.

Angrois, Galicia, Spain.

Seyne-les-Alpes is a village near the site where the plane crashed and neighbors were shocked and troubled. Villagers in the valley have offered beds for the families and other kind of help.

Both Spanish and French neighbors deserve my praise and feel confidence in the kindness of the human being.

"Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness", Seneca said.

They gave too much. What about if all of us give just a little bit? That is the message Roger Hodgson sends us with his song "Give a little bit". These are his words:

""Give a Little Bit has a wonderful message that makes people light up and I get them to sing with me. It really has a message that is very eternal and is needed even more today than it was when I wrote it when I was 19. The song is very simple but yet very powerful.
It's all about reaching out and giving and caring."

Have a really nice weekend!

Chinese Dragon. Stories.

Hello everyone,
There are twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac but there is only one which is imaginary: the dragon.
Chinese people think they are descendents of the dragon (it is a belief) and you can see this across some aspects of the Chinese society and in the minds of its people. The dragon is a symbol of high esteem for its dignity and power for goodness.

There are different type of dragons according to colour. They may be white, red, blue, black and yellow.

The yellow one was the most venerated because the emperor had a gown decorated with a yellow dragon pattern.

In spite of the fact there are different kind of dragons, most of them are quite similar and it is a combination of different animals.
It has got a prominent forehead indicating wisdom  and horns symbolizing longevity. Its ox's ears show success. It also has tiger's eyes denoting power and eagle's claws showing bravery. Its fish's tail is a sign of flexibility. Finally the horse's teeth is an indication of intelligence.

The most spectacular way of showing affection for the dragon is the dragon dance. It happens from the Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) until the Lantern Festival.
