The power of music.

Hello everybody,
Do you believe in the power of music? Then you shouldn't miss this video.
Adrián Martín is a boy from Vélez-Málaga, Spain. He is only 9 years old, he loves singing and his favourite type of music is flamenco (I must say that I love that music).

Flamenco is comprised of three parts: the song, the dance and the guitar. Moreover, you must add passion, feelings and rythm. In other words, "It's a hard nut to crack", as Paco de Lucía said.

He won the TV talent show "Mamá, quiero ser artista" and I am really excited after listening to him.
He sings with his sister a beautiful song by Rosario Flores called ¡Qué bonito!

Congratulations, Adrian and family. Your voice and your feeling are incomparable.

Adrián is a clear example of improvement.
He has demonstrated that he has got these characteristics well developed:
- Sociability: Form healthy relationships.
Insightfulness: Understand people and situations.
- Optimism: View self and the future positively.
- Competence: Are "good" at something, and are aware of own skills.
- Flexibility: Accept that change is a part of living.
- Perseverance: Continue despite difficulty, doesn't give up.
- Self- confidence: Move toward goals. Bases decisions/choices on own instincts and confidence in own abilities.
- Perspective: Try to see even difficult situations in perspective. Views crises as challenges to be faced, rather than insurmountable obstacles.
- Self control: Manage strong feelings and impulses.
This last information has ben taken from the article Developing resiliency in children in the face of adversity.

Thanksgiving Day or Turkey Day.

Hello everybody,
Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in the United States today and it's traditionally a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal.

It's a time for many people to give thanks for what they have. Some people have a four-day weekend so they visit family and friends.

It is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November and it precedes Black Friday, often regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.

Thanksgiving is also celebrated in Canada but on the second Monday in October.
Here you can read some of the common traditions associated with this celebration.

1. Thanksgiving tradition.

2. 7 Idioms connected to Thanksgiving.

Learn this song if you want: What are you thankful for?

Extension:
Here you can watch a video about the story of the first thanksgiving and after that answer some questions about the story.

What's the President doing with that turkey?

He's blessing this turkey.
Thanks to him, the turkey will live happily on the farm. It's very lucky.
It is said that the first settlers survived because the Indians showed them how to hunt turkeys.

Gabriela Andersen won her personal battle.

The 1984 women’s Olympic marathon was historic because it was the first time the event was included at the Games.
Up to that point 1,500 metres  was considered the upper limit of ladylike Olympic competition.
The race was won by Joan Benoit, in a remarkable time of 2:24:52. However, there was a notorious fact for the 70,000-plus spectators who cheered on the marathon runner Gabriela Andersen-Schiess during the  400 metres of agony she had to walk.
She was an incredible 37th, in a time of two hours, 48 minutes and 42 seconds.
"I guess I just kept walking by instinct," she said. "It was a little bit of willpower or something. Your mind tries to dominate over your tired body. Your body may be screaming, 'No!', but your mind says, 'Well, yes, but it's so close.'"

Oasis: don't look back in anger.

Hello children,
"Don't Look Back in Anger" is a song by the English rock band Oasis, released in 1996.  Noel Gallagher wrote this song. It became the band's second single to reach number one on the UK Singles Chart, where it also went platinum. It is one of the band's signature songs, and was played at almost every single live show from its release to the dissolution of the band.

Autumn is here: say goodbye to summer.

Hello children,
There are two equinoxes every year: in September and in March.
The sun positition in the sky dictates the equinoxes because it shines directly on the equator and the lenght of day and night is nearly the same -12 hours all over the world-.
The word equinox comes form Latin and it means equal night.
The equinox in September is known like the autumnal (fall) equinox in the nothern hemisphire.
September equinox in Alicante was 23rd September at 4:29.
Here you can see the earth during September equinox.

Image taken from: http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/september-equinox.html

However, the spring equinox starts in the south hemisphire.
Let's practise the season song.
